This surprising daily drink stains your teeth more than coffee

When it comes to keeping your teeth looking pearly white, we all know that coffee is one of the biggest no-nos. Or so we thought, anyway...

Because it turns out that another of our favourite daily drinks may actually be even worse for teeth staining – and, no, we're not talking about red wine.

In fact, according to one dental expert, tea is actually be even worse than coffee when it comes to discolouration.

According to a release by dental brand White Glo, it's all down to three staining compounds found in tea – theaflavins, thearubigins, theabrownins. As well as this, your cuppa contains tannins, which contribute to the formation of plaque on your teeth, which causes yellowing.

And, unfortunately for those of us who can't get through the morning without a strong brew, our teeth are particularly susceptible to tannins.

Jordon Kirk, White Glo's dental expert, told The Sun: 'Tooth enamel is naturally porous and can absorb the tannins in tea, leading to unpleasant brown discolouration of your teeth.'

Oh, great...

To be honest, we don't think we can live without our daily cuppa, so we might have to accept our yellow-toothed fate. Or, at the very least, check out these top tips on how to keep teeth naturally white to try and counteract effects...
